Governor signs into law a bill that would provide medical records free of charge to disability applicants appealing a denial by Social Security (June 10, 2015)

Cheryl Coon successfully drafted and shepherded legislation to ensure that disabled Oregonians are not prevented from pursuing their disability cases because of the inability to pay for medical records.

This year, Oregon became the 19th state in the country to protect the ability of disabled claimants to access their social security disability benefits.  Cheryl developed the legislation and sought a champion, whom she found in Senator Sara Gelser, to ensure that the legislation moved forward.  Cheryl serves as Chair of the Oregon Bar’s Disability Section and co-chair of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Disability Committee, and focuses her practice on helping individuals apply for and be represented in their effort to be approved for disability benefits.
