"The mission of the BISG of Portland is to serve those affected by Brain Injury-through advocacy, community awareness, education, injury prevention, service, and support. Most brain injuries fit in the category of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). This category includes injuries from a stroke, brain aneurysm, brain tumor, etc. The dominant sub-category of ABI is the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), typically caused by automobile accidents, falls, blows to the head, penetrating head wounds, brain surgery, etc. A traumatic head injury may be either a closed head injury, with no penetrating wound, or an open head injury."
